Summer 2015 saw another shock revelation of yet another affair on BBC entertainment show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ – Ben Cohen and Kristina Rihanoff.
As the start of the 2015 series is upon us, we look back at the history of heart-breaks – celebrity spouses and partners be warned that 2016 could bring more revelations…
1. Ben Cohen & Kristina Rihanoff
Ben and Kristina were paired together on the 2013 series of the show. The following year in September, Ben split from his wife Abby, 37, after a 23 year relationship and an 11 year marriage. Abby, mother of their twin daughters has voiced her humiliation to national newspapers, saying “My husband, who I was with for 23 years, unconditionally loved and was completely loyal to in every respect, has left me for a f***ing Russian dancer.”
Ben and Kristina denied rumours of an affair but were recently seen on holiday together in Turkey with Ben’s daughters. Abby is convinced that Kristina is the reason behind the end of her marriage to Ben.
This is the third relationship for Kristina in her Strictly career (that we know about) that has caused hurt and upset. How long will it last this time?
2. Rachel Riley & Pasha Kovalev
Rachel Riley, 28, (Countdown and 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown) split from her millionaire husband of just 15 months after her stint on Strictly. Jamie, 33, stated he was ‘shocked and stunned’ by the split. After months of speculation surrounding the affair, yet again, denial from both parties involved until photos and interviews were released in the summer of 2014 of the couple ‘deep in love’. Pasha won the 2014 series with TV presenter Caroline Flack.
3. Joe Calzaghe & Kristina Rihanoff
Just one week in to the 2009 series, Joe dumped his model girlfriend Jo-Emma Larvin for his dance partner Kristina. The relationship lasted just a year before she moved on to her next victim, stating that Joe had asked her not to take a role in the West End to which she defied him.
4. Vincent Simone & Kristina Rihanoff
The Siberian Siren strikes again! It was reported that the professional dancers had an affair whilst on tour at the time Vincent’s girlfriend, Susan Duddy, was pregnant with their first son in 2008. Susan dumped Vincent but later reconciled and the couple married on 18th July 2015, they have two beautiful sons, Luca and Matteo.
Vincent was engaged to Strictly’s Flavia Cacace, prior to meeting Susan Duddy, having been dance partners since they were 17. The couple’s love fizzled out but they maintained a professional relationship on the show.
5. Natasha Kaplinsky & Brendon Cole
This affair has alway been denied but still crops up when Googling ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
On the very first series of Strictly, newsreader Natasha Kaplinksy was rumoured to have stepped on Brendan Cole’s fiancee’s toes. The pair were plagued by affair rumours in 2004 – Natasha later dumped her partner of 12 years while Brendan ditched fellow pro-dancer Camilla Dallerup.
Natasha has always denied any behind the scenes action, saying: “There was chemistry, of course, and I certainly fell in love with dancing, but I did not fall in love with Brendan.”
Camilla states in her latest book that losing Brendon to Natasha after their 8 year relationship was ‘like a mini-death’. Camilla went on to marry ex-HollyOaks actor Kevin Sacre and Brendon met and married Zoe Hobbs. So at least they have both found love again!
1. Susanna Reid & Dominic Cotton
After 15 years together and producing 3 beautiful children, Strictly Come Dancing managed to drive a wedge between the couple. The arguments began when Dominic refused to be filmed in the Strictly audience, Susanna stating she felt humiliated and embarrassed. Susanna has gone on to forge a successful career on morning television and has been very open about how her marriage to Dominic came to a close.
2. Caroline Flack & Jack Street
Caroline was left devastated after splitting from boyfriend Jack of 18 months during the 2014 series. Fellow dancers and celebrities comforted the star backstage who managed to pull it together and win the show. The pair got back together recently in 2015 but after just 2 months, Caroline dumped Street stating he was ‘an evil man’. Oh well!
3. Mark Ramprakash & Vandana Ramprakash
Mark appeared on the 2007 series, supported heavily by his wife Vandana and his two daughters. During the show, revelations appeared that Mark had been having an affair with single mum Sadia Salem. At the time the affair reached the news, Sadia claimed that Mark had kept his marriage a secret… HOW?? Following the show, Mark moved out of the family home in North London. In various interviews Mark exclaimed “I’m distraught at the grief I have caused my wife and family, whom I love very much.” The affair was reported to have ended 3 months before the show started, but with it being out in the public domain, Mark’s wife Vandana struggled to cope with the pressure. Mark went on to marry again – he married PR Director Puja Vedi in 2012 – which also came to an end this year in May (2015).
Finding Love (Even if it was temporary!)
These stars found love on Strictly, lets hope the curse has been lifted for these couples –
1. Kara Tointon & Artem Chigvintsev
The love-struck couple won the 2010 series, lifting the glitter ball high and proud. Not long after their triumph, they moved in to their London flat together. Cracks began to appear in the relationship when Artem was paired with ex-Neighbours babe Holly Valance. Jealous Kara made life difficult for the pair during training with weepy phone calls and bouts of messages on Twitter. The couple split in 2014 but in a recent interview, Kara has revealed she wouldn’t rule out a reconciliation with her ex-partner.
2. Ali Bastian & Brian Fortuna
Former Hollyoaks actress Ali Bastian and her dance partner, Brian Fortuna, got together in 2009.
They were both single when their Cha Cha Cha got hotter than Bruce Forsyth under the ballroom lights, but after a short romance, the couple split in October 2010 saying it had just ‘fizzled out’.
3. Matt Di Angelo and Flavia Cacace
Matt Di Angelo and Flavia Cacace’s romance was front page news in 2007– despite the pair denying rumours of an affair and insisting they were just friends.
The pair finally went public in 2010 when former EastEnder Matt told national newspapers: “The funny thing was the story did not start off as true, but the more you read it, the more you started to believe it and actually act on it … I started to think that if I am getting all this stick, we might as well go out with each other.” Unfortunately the pair split but things got a bit better for Flavia…
4. Flavia Cacace & Jimi Mistry
This gorgeous couple met on the 2010 series of the show. Announcing their engagement in summer 2013 and tying the knot in December the same year. Yay, a happy ending!
